Colonial Williamsburg
Once upon a time, I gave up sewing in frustration. Then I visited Colonial Williamsburg, where I experienced true craftsmanship. To be able to sew so beautifully and masterfully without modern equipment was inconceivable to me.
Within the hearing of the colonial tailor, my children implored me to sew historical clothing for them and myself to wear, so that we could become a colonial family and experience the 18th century together "in proper manner."
The tailor encouraged their enthusiasm and emboldened me to dare to stitch by hand, to customize the fit, and to drape to the body. (Well, I learned more of the draping from a good friend.)
A whole new world of bespoke fashion opened for me.
I still have much to learn.
This is my journey.
